June 8 - Checker & the Bluetones

Checker and the Bluetones is one of the premier bands in the Cedar Valley. They have played many of the prestigious events in the Cedar Valley such as Friday’loo, College Hill Arts Festival, My Waterloo Days, Sturgis Falls Days, Iowa City Jazz Festival, and Waterloo Center for the Arts Rooftop Jazz, among many small town summer celebrations. They have performed regularly at Jameson’s, Isle of Capri, Voodoo Lounge, The Hub, Spicoli’s and the Screaming Eagle.

Known as an outstanding vocal band, they are led vocally by Jovita Long. Jovita is a cross between Janis Joplin and Ella Fitzgerald and she has the versatility that has awed audiences throughout the Cedar Valley. Joining her on vocals is guitarist, Iowa and Minnesota Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, John Thomson, with leader and keyboardist, Mike (Checker) Michalicek, and funky bassist, John Baskerville. Rounding out the Bluetones is drummer, Steve Mark and saxophonist, Tom Barry.

July 13 - Bob Dorr & The Blue Band

In the Blue Band's 30 year history, the group has averaged playing 125 dates a year, traveling mainly 300 miles from its base in Cedar Falls IA, playing the majority of those dates in Iowa but also making appearances in Minneapolis, Omaha, Kansas City, and Chicago. For 15 years the band made trips to Colorado ski resort areas and also traveled to Sun Valley Idaho. The band was also invited to the international Bluestock Celebration in Memphis, where they appeared at B.B. King's nightclub on Beale St.
